Sourcefire Signs SRA as Reseller of 3D System to the Federal Government

Press release May 6, 2009 IT

Open source innovator and Snort® creator, Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq:FIRE), a leader in Enterprise Threat Management, today announced that it has signed an agreement with SRA International, Inc. (NYSE:SRX) to resell the Sourcefire 3D System, its leading intrusion prevention system (IPS), to federal government customers.

  • As the only IPS software developed entirely in the United States, the 3D System extends SRA cyber security offerings, enabling government customers to better defend against nation-state sponsored hackers by tailoring the detection engine to their specific needs.
  • In addition to detecting the most common exploits and threats, the 3D System automatically profiles everything running on an organization's network and identifies potential vulnerable systems, allowing administrators to remove systems that could be compromised.
  • The Snort-based 3D System provides leading protection for both physical and virtual systems, enabling customers to increase their network security without investing in multiple appliances.

"SRA leads the industry in providing government organizations with the expertise and technologies to protect their most critical assets, and Sourcefire's system adds additional robust intrusion prevention capabilities to our solution set," said SRA Vice President of Products and Offerings, Jim McClave. "As a recognized leader in the IPS market, the Sourcefire 3D System enables SRA to increase our customers' situational awareness with leading intrusion prevention capabilities."

The Sourcefire 3D System will now be available to federal customers as a component of SRA's comprehensive cyber security offering - SRA One Vault -- and as part of its leading managed security service.

"Through this partnership, Sourcefire and SRA are providing government users with an enhanced solution for protecting their systems and meeting key information assurance policies," said Tom McDonough, President and COO of Sourcefire. "SRA's expertise in the cyber security arena and market presence will enhance Sourcefire's already strong position within the federal government, while our innovative solutions will help to provide the highest levels of protection."

The Sourcefire 3D System is deployed across all branches of the military and in the largest civilian government agencies. No other solution on the market offers organizations the combination of intelligence, strength and flexibility to defend the country's strategic information systems, off-the-shelf. It not only enables government agencies to customize detection rules to identify non-public exploits being launched by nation-states, but also identifies abnormal behaviors on the network, zeroing-in on the possible compromise of mission-critical systems. The 3D System's effective, efficient, and highly automated approach requires fewer resources and delivers a higher degree of return on investment and protection.

Powered by open source Snort as its detection engine, the Sourcefire 3D System is consistently recognized as one of the industry's leading and most innovative Intrusion Prevention Systems. Backed by the VRT, a group of leading edge intrusion detection and prevention experts and a community of over 225,000 registered Snort users, the Sourcefire 3D System helps to protect customers from critical threats, often before they are formally discovered.
