Two Huge Opportunities for Small Business Owners Now We’re Officially In Recession

Press release January 23, 2009 Business

The UK is expected to be announced as officially in recession today. Yet arguably, opportunity has never been greater for small business owners.

Swanage, Dorset, UK, January 23, 2009 -Everyone is selling crisis. Yet Dorset Based entrepreneur and marketing expert Henry Baker claims "Opportunity has never been higher for small business owners." "There are two very clear opportunities that small business owners should be exploiting now," says Henry.  "One topic is using the sea-change from generous, indulgent economy to grumpy, demanding one as motivation to re-asses your business inside out, and get smarter and tougher and more diligent about managing for maximum profit." Henry claims it is such a big opportunity because hardly anyone wants to do leaving those who do with massive advantage. "Look, in business, the surest path to disappointments in income and wealth short-term and long-term is resentment or procrastination over the need for constant change. You have to see the need for change as exciting opportunity, not as burden. You have to be mentally agile," he asserts.

The second opportunity is even more exciting. "Essentially, there's a gigantic growth industry, an unprecedented boom underway, getting rich by selling to the rich, near-rich, soon-to-be-rich. Many business owners' knee-jerk reaction to this is either to deny it because it is not their personal experience or to feel it is not what their business is about or that these exceptionally valuable buyers or investors are somehow beyond their reach. Well, ignorance is forgivable and fixable, but 'you can't 'fix stupid'.If that sounds harsh, it's supposed to. There's never profit in making the lists of why we can'tdo something, why we can'tcapitalize on emerging opportunities. Making such lists is easy, low-pay work. Any idiot can do it. If you want high pay - especially at times when a lot of business owners are taking pay cuts - you have to do more high pay work. And certainly, finding ways to follow the money, to appeal to and attract more affluent, willing to spend people is such work. Making excuses, sucking your thumb is not," he concludes.
