Travellers Seek Out Real London Experience

Press release October 21, 2009 Tourism

Tourists visiting London are able to hook up with a local to see the real city for the very first time.

A new website aims to take the fear out of visiting the big city by allowing travellers to make friends with real Londoners even before they arrive.

Friday Night Sucks already has members from across the globe and is becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

The site lets users make friends to accompany them on nights out in London – often at extremely short notice.

It isn’t a dating sight so users can make new friends and get to know new people in London without the pressure of a dating scenario.

The site has proved an unexpected hit with people across the UK planning visits to London and with those overseas who are coming to the capital and want to meet real Londoners.

More and more tourists are turning their backs on organised tours and are instead seeking out local city guides to show them the real London.

Many tourists, especially those who have visited London before are now shunning major attractions such as Madame Tussauds and the Tower of London, instead choosing to visit more intimate areas of the city, often known only to locals.

FridayNightSucks.com was the brainchild of Vicki Jenkins who created the site as a way of matching like minded individuals who were struggling to make connections in the capital.

Members simply register, write a short biography about their interests and the type of person they would like to socialise with and then arrange to meet for nights out.

Whilst the site is becoming increasingly popular amongst London residents it has also attracted registrations from every corner of the globe with members from countries including Nigeria, Canada, Pakistan and Syria all joining the site in search of locals who can show them London’s best bits.

Vicki said: “It seems foreign visitors are a bit sick of doing the same boring tourist activities when they visit London.

“Each day new members are registering with the site, hoping to hook up with real Londoners who can show them what living and partying in London is all about.”

Vicki created the site after failing to make friends when she moved to London, leaving her feeling sad and lonely. Whilst never expecting the site to be so popular outside of the UK, Vicki is pleased that people are finding new ways in which they can benefit from registering.

Vicki said: “I wanted to help lonely people in London meet people and make friends; however I am delighted that thanks to my site visitors to London are able to settle in a lot quicker, something which can be difficult, especially when travelling alone.

“I know how terrible it can be to be in a new place and have nobody to go out and have fun with, you feel like such a loser!

“It’s great because not only do the visitors to London get to meet people who know the city like the back of their hand but our UK members get to meet people from all over the world and learn a little about their culture, making the whole experience great fun.

“I hope my site encourages more people from abroad to come and experience what a wonderful city London really is.”

The newly launched site is now live please visit www.FridayNightSucks.com for further details.
