Test The Town
Press release May 18, 2008 PublicImproving adult literacy in town centres around South London in partnership with McDonald's Restaurants Ltd
Are you ready to be part of the Test the Town challenge?
Look out for our Test the Town team in your local town centre during Adult Learners' Week 17th - 24th May. Test the Town is about improving your maths and English skills. It's aimed at everyone over 16 whether you are in work or job seeking. So far over 290,000 people have benefitted from the programme.
Whether you are looking for a new job, aiming to get promoted in your current job or just want to be able to keep up with your kids then Test the Town will get you on your way!
What is Test the Town?
It is part of the 'Move On' campaign which is a national 'skills boosting' initiative that encourages anyone over 16 to 'brush up' on their skills. All you do is take an online mini test in English and or maths to test your skills, depending on your test results we can find out what level you are at and help you to 'brush up' your English and maths skills with the opportunity of gaining 'nationally recognised, up to date' qualifications up to, and equivalent to, GCSE level. All the courses are free and you can take them in a place that suits you whether that's your local college, community centre, at work or at Learndirect locations.
So if you left school without a qualification in English or maths, or if you have become a bit rusty with spelling, punctuation, decimals, or maths in general, Test the Town is offering you the chance to get an up-to-date qualification, free of charge. The National Tests in literacy and numeracy are like the driving theory test - they are multiple-choice and you can take them on computer or on paper.
Increase your chances of moving up, improve your career prospects and boost your confidence by taking part in the challenge, or pick up a leaflet in, your local college, library or community centre.
We want as many people as possible to take the Test and are bringing the opportunity to you through your local town centre making it easy for you to join in. We are working with McDonald's
Restaurants Ltd. and you'll be able to talk to a member of staff about taking the test in 9 restaurants in Croydon, 3 in Sutton, 3 in Bromley and 1 each in Orpington and Merton. As part of the fun they will be offering free face painting to help keep children amused while their parents take the test.
As well as the activities in McDonald's Restaurants Ltd. you'll find a Test the Town team in Sutton, Croydon, Merton Bromley and Orpington town centres, they will all have fun family events happening such as clowns, face painting and balloon modelling and you can chat to one of our friendly advisors about brushing up on your skills.
