Press release December 17, 2013 Power to the people Help the Philippines SOS Philippines

Burnley born Christian Helm is one of a number of dedicated self funded volunteers who have come together to help assist and rebuild the many devastated Philippine communities in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Typhoon Yolanda, that stuck in November.

After two years of volunteering in South East Asia and helping many Philippino residents, Christian Helm, a Burnley born man decided to head back home in 2011.

With the Philippines close to his heart Christian was shocked at the devastation caused in November 2013 by Hurricane Yolanda and personally motivated to do something to help the many devastated communities of Samar, Leyte and Bantayan Island in Cebu; some of which saw total destruction of homes, businesses and families.

He booked a flight, jumped on a plane and headed straight for the heart of the disaster area to provide whatever help he could with the help of a group of like-minded and small organisation of self funded volunteers.

Unlike the larger charity organisations in the UK and internationally that are supported and funded by corporations, Christian and the team of volunteers set out completely off their own backs to help in anyway they could buy buying food, rice, building materials, medicine and vitimins to help the many victims of this disaster as much as possible.

SOS Philippines have come together as one to help assist in the aid and rebuilding of Tacloban, Leyte and Bantayan. None of the team work for individual charities, they pay for all their own expenses such as food, travel and accommodation and rely solely on donations from members of the public.

They have been travelling island to island since the disaster distributing food, toys for children, water and vital medicines. Now; Christian and the team are urging the general public to help in this mass effort to help rebuild people's lives that have been totally torn apart in the form of any donation - together people can make a difference.

There are many ways people can help, it could be a personal donation or organising and fundraising event; no doubt millions of the UK general public have been moved and harrowed by these shocking events that have been widely broadcast via the media - any small donation will make a huge difference.
