Scrappage Scheme Success

Press release September 9, 2009 Motor & Transport

Since the inception of the Scrappage Scheme in May this year, the Cartakeback.com network of Authorised Treatment Facilities has paid out over £5 million to car dealerships in exchange for scrap cars and by the end of the scheme expects this to have soared to £10 million.

The scrappage scheme sees £300 million of government support, with matched funding provided by vehicle manufacturers, to motorists in the form of a £2,000 discount when they scrap their old car.  The scheme was initially planned to run until as late as March 2010 but recent government statistics suggest that the £300 million funding may run out before the end of this year.

Graham Price, manager of Cartakeback commented “Even though the government’s funding is likely to come to an end very soon, we still expect to be collecting scrappage scheme vehicles from dealerships early next year due to the manufacturers’ lead time for providing new vehicles which can be as long as 3 or 4 months”.

Cartakeback has proven that it is ideally positioned, as the approved service provider to the vehicle manufacturers, to support the government’s scrappage scheme.  Every scrap car collected through Cartakeback’s nationwide collection service is delivered to a Cartakeback Authorised Treatment Facility where a DVLA Certificate of Destruction is issued – the document required by dealers to prove that the vehicle has been destroyed and to trigger the scrappage incentive.

The scrappage scheme has helped to boost the number of cars being scrapped through the Cartakeback network and by the end of this year Cartakeback expects that up to 40% of the vehicles which are de-registered through the DVLA’s Certificate of Destruction system will be processed through its nationwide network of 300 Authorised Treatment Facilities.

Dealerships are able to arrange for secure disposal of all scrappage scheme vehicles arising under the scheme using a dedicated, secure, online request form; details of which can be found by calling 0845 257 32 33 or e-mailing [email protected].
