Beat the credit crunch with a Wedding Pie from Pie& (http://www.pieand.co.uk). A Wedding Pie not only provides an unusual talking point. It can also double as the evening buffet or part of the wedding breakfast. And in the case of the individual pies can create a centrepiece for tables, as well as solving the old problem of wedding favours!

A Wedding Pie might sound unusual, but it’s actually very traditional. Back in the 17th century the ‘Bride’s pie’ was relatively commonplace. The pie, filled with sweetbreads, mutton or mincemeat, contained a glass ring. It was claimed that the lady who found the ring would be next to be married. The Brides pie tended to be the centrepiece even at less affluent ceremonies. By the late 19th century, the bride’s pie had given way to the increasingly popular wedding cake.

A Wedding Pie does not have to replace a cake. The cake and pie work well together, to offer guests both a sweet and a savoury option for the evening buffet. Pie& offer a selection of styles, including tiered pies and individual pies, in a variety of shapes, fillings and sizes. The individual pies include a flavour card to identify each filling. Pie& also create bespoke 'Bride & Groom' pie toppers, and other decorations which are individually handcrafted in salt-dough, and can be kept as a memento of the day.

Craig Blick, Pie& co-founder said: “Our Wedding Pies are made with a suet-based pastry, which gives them the perfect depth and texture, without being dry, fatty or heavy. We have 6 standard fillings for our pies including Beef & Onion, Chicken Balti, Steak & Kidney, and Spicy Vegetable. Our vegetarian pies are made with vegetarian pastry and fillings. Alternatively, we can create a specific filling to meet the need of the Bride and Groom. Specialist pies previously created include; Lamb - slow cooked for 15 hours, with a layer of minted peas; Game; Beef & Guinness; Mash and Brie; and Kangaroo!”

About Us

Natasha and Craig Blick established Pie& Ltd in Keighley in 2005, when they identified that whilst wedding cakes are in abundance there are few alternatives, especially for those who don't have a sweet tooth. Pie& create and supply celebration pies in and around the West and North Yorkshire regions.

Natasha Said; “We developed our pastry over a period of 6 months, asking people to taste the pies and then rate them on a scale of 1-10, by the end of the trials we were consistently scoring 9 & 10 out of 10, for pastry, filling and the pie as a whole.”
