The UK’s love of meerkats is expected to reach new highs next Thursday (28th October) as comparethemeerkat.com opens its first UK shop on London’s prestigious Regent Street.  

The pop-up shop will be open for two days only to celebrate the launch of comparethemeerkat.com founder Aleksandr Orlov’s autobiography - ‘A Simples Life - My Life & Times’.  The autobiography, which has already topped the Amazon Hot New Releases chart, is in the running to become a Christmas best-seller.

The first 250 visitors to the shop (on both days) will be able to buy a signed copy of ‘A Simples Life - My Life & Times’, and for the first time ever,have an opportunity to compare meerkat paintings and see original artifacts from Aleksandr’s mansion and adverts .

The pop up shop, at 80 Regent Street, will be a replica of comparethemeerkat.shop which featured in the latest comparethemeerkat.com advert, ‘The Streets of Ambitiousness’.

The shop is expected to attract large crowds, as the British public has awarded Aleksandr Orlov iconic status since his first TV appearance in 2009.

Speaking from his Russian mansion Aleksandr said, I am very proud to announce openings of replica comparethemeerkat.shop on the London street of prestigiousness: Regent Street. Shop will sell book (A Simples Life) and have many original artifact from my family history. Unfortunates I will not be able to attend shop as I am give talk at Moscow’s ‘Velvety Dress and Dinner Time Etiquette’ convention but please have fun and enjoy future bestseller (and don’t touch artifacts).”

Aleksandr’s autobiography tells the story of his family from their humble but tasteful origins in the Kalahari to the present day and the successful meerkat comparison business, comparethemeerkat.com, which Aleksandr runs from the small village of Meerkovo near Moscow.  

Aleksandr wrote his family history as part of his ongoing efforts to stop people from visiting his site by mistake when looking for car insurance at www.comparethemarket.com.  

A Simples Life, My Life and Times, by Aleksandr Orlov is published by Ebury Press (RRP £9.99) and available to pre-order from www.amazon.co.uk. It is on sale nationally from all leading book retailers from 28th October 2010.

The shop will be open from 10am – 8pm on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th October.   comparethemeerkat.com has worked closely with The Crown Estate, owners of the Regent St property on the opening of the shop.
