United Kingdom, October 26, 2017:The European Medical Journal welcomes you to the 2017 edition of the EMJ RespiratoryeJournal. This eagerly anticipated publication includes a stimulating summary of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress 2017, including some of the latest advances from the field in the Congress Review and Abstract Review sections. Over the 5-day congress, healthcare professionals and experts from around the world gathered to share their latest research, findings, and opinions on all aspects of the respiratory field.

Taking place in the stylish city of Milan, Italy, the congress was the perfect opportunity to inspire every level of respirologist. Highlights from the event, described in the Congress Review section, include updates surrounding asthma, as well as some intriguing insights into the use and public perceptions of the relatively new e-cigarette devices, amongst many other important research areas. A selection of research summaries presented at ERS have been enclosed as part our Abstract Review section including an investigation into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment tests and their relevance for predicting exacerbations, an in-depth view of induced sputum samples at a cellular level in young patients with bronchial asthma, and a study analysing risk factors for active tuberculosis in children with latent tuberculosis infections, as well as many more exciting, thought-provoking topics. Alongside these we also present some fascinating interviews with members of the EMJ RespiratoryEditorial Board, delving into their career paths, experiences, and opinions of respiratory medicine.

This eJournal also brings you an exciting selection of peer-reviewed articles. The Editor’s Pick for this edition, penned by Blais et al., provides an extensive review of allergen challenge models, bringing together several pieces of evidence regarding the different models currently available to assess their relevance in a clinical setting. Offering something different, Innabi et al. provide an interesting review into the removal of airway stents, along with their personal experiences within their institution. Included within this particular article is the shocking revelation that, on one occasion, a stent had been left in a patient for 26 years!
