Press release August 24, 2012 Lifestyle

A look at the best celebrity weddings and how these couples tied the knot in style.

This year has seen some very high profile names tie the knot; with Drew Barrymore, Natalie Portman and Mathew McConaughey to name but a few. With their extortionate budgets and A-list guests, very few celebrity weddings disappoint, but of all the celebrity weddings over the years we ask the question; “who did it best?”

Grace Kelly

Possibly one of the most famous weddings of all time would be that of Hollywood golden girl Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. This fairytale wedding consisted of two separate ceremonies; a civil ceremony followed by a Catholic Mass the next day, and was considered ‘The Wedding of the Century’. Grace Kelly’s wedding dress was designed by Helen Rose and was the most expensive dress she had ever made.

Kate Middleton & Prince William

On April 29th 2011 Britain came to a standstill to watch in awe at the royal wedding of Catherine Middleton and Prince William. Over 1 million people lined the streets of London and a further 2 billion watched from home on the television. The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey with the bride wearing an elegant Sarah Burton for McQueen dress and the groom his Irish Guards officer’s uniform. Catherine’s wedding ring is made from Welsh gold a tradition with the royal family since 1923, and was created by the royal warrant holder Wartski.

Victoria & David Beckham

The lavish wedding of Spice Girl Victoria Adams to footballer David Beckham took place on 4th July 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. The bride wore a champagne coloured strapless Vera Wang dress with a 20-foot train, and an 18-carat gold crown encrusted with diamonds on her head. David wore an ivory and cream suit, with the couple’s baby son, Brooklyn in a white suit. In celebration of the wedding a purple heraldic flag was raised above the castle with the letters ‘V.B.D’ – Victoria, Brooklyn and David. 230 guests attended the wedding reception, all wearing black and white where the newlyweds sat on two golden thrones.

Elton John

On 21st December 2005 Elton John and David Furnish became one of the first gay couples in England and Wales to enter into a civil ceremony. The “wedding” took place in Windsor and was attended by many high profile celebrities; including Victoria and David Beckham, Claudia Schiffer, Lulu, Ronan Keating and Sharon Stone. There were so many celebrities arriving that there was a queue of cars lining the country lanes near the couple’s Old Windsor Mansion.
