What To Ddo When They Are All Very Different

Lace Wedding Dress

When it comes to choosing the dresses for your bridesmaids to wear to accompany you on your big day, there are a couple of considerations you have to take into account.

Firstly, the bridesmaid dress style should not only perfectly complement your wedding dress, it should also be in keeping with the wedding theme. Choosing the right dress colour which fits in with the wedding ceremony and reception should be at the forefront of your mind when searching those rails. Traditionally, bridesmaid dresses are just one colour and are typically neutral with an added element of colour from an accessory to help accentuate a particular feature.

Contemporary dresses tend to be shorter than the more traditional dresses, and with brighter, more vibrant colours. Deciding on a colour which suits your bridesmaid’s complexions is essential as you don’t want them to blend into the dress if they are fair, but don’t want too much of a contrast if they have a darker complexion. It’s also worth considering that 9 times out of 10 your bridesmaid’s dresses will be bought, not hired, which means your bridesmaids will want to wear them again; help your bridesmaids out by choosing something that they can wear on other occasions.

There are so many different designs and styles to choose from, how on earth do you know which is the right one for you?

Peplum Bridesmaid Dress

For starters, a nice simple design is always a safe bet with bridesmaids and guests alike. Not being too flashy and not outshining the bride is absolutely essential!

You also need to put a lot of effort into choosing a style that suits all of your bridesmaids body types – assuming that they all have different body shapes – so everyone feels comfortable in what they’re wearing.

Everyone will also have their own particular dress taste or idea for what will work well, and trying to make everyone happy will be a tough task, but not impossible! There is definitely a type of dress out there that will play into all of your bridesmaids’ hands, it’s mostly just a case of trial and error.

The best way to choose your bridesmaid’s dresses is to take them along shopping with you, and get them to be your guinea pigs by trying on all the different dresses you have picked out.

The main styles coming down the catwalk for 2013 are:

Lace

Lace is a relatively new style for bridesmaid dresses, even though they have been popular wedding dress styles. A lace bridesmaid dress lets the designer get creative with intricate patterns to focus on a specific area of the dress or body.

Illusion Necklines

Illusion neckline dresses are also extremely popular with brides dresses, but the bridesmaids are quickly taking them for themselves! Usually they incorporate some lace into the design, but other materials can also be used.

One-Shouldered

One of the most flattering and contemporary bridesmaid dress designs are those which only have one shoulder. They show off, and draw attention to, beautiful collar bones which hasn’t always been the case with the most traditional bridesmaid dresses.

Peplums

Peplums have been featuring massively throughout all fashion for the past year or so and have slowly but surely made their way to the forefront of bridesmaid fashion. Peplums really draw the eye to the hips, so if you have bridesmaids with killer curves then a peplum might be right up your street!
