When many people buy furniture it is the ‘star of the room’ and so if they are not careful it is easy for it to overpower the rest of the furniture in the room. 

Karen Broderick, trend watch expert at Harveys, says that there are 3 top tips to avoid this common pitfall: 

1. ensure you buy your bedside tables to match the whole of the room – don’t just buy from the range
2. take a look at the proportions of the bed you are buying.  As this is the main piece in the room, if it is a king size, follow its lead and buy large bedside tables
3. think about using multi functional furniture, for instance a desk can double up as a bedside table, but also give you a valuable working space
