Art @ The Orchard – James Lavott Launch Event Thursday 28th January, Exhibition 29th January - 24th March 2010

Press release January 15, 2010 Culture

On Thursday 28th January, The Orchard Restaurant will launch the first of a new series of exhibitions in collaboration with local arts organisation dot-art, showcasing the work of local artists and exposing their work to a wide audience, in relaxed, inviting surroundings.

The Orchard is a contemporary British restaurant spread over two floors of an old spice mill on Blundell Street situated in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. The venue prides itself on it's use of only locally sourced ingredients, and now extends this local commitment with the development of this exciting exhibition program.

The first show will see the work of self taught painter James Lavott on show over two floors. Over the past two years, James has worked with prolific intensity to create a large and impressive portfolio of work, drawing inspiration from a host of artists including Velasquez, Dali, Picasso and Bacon. The ground floor will host a selection of works from his “Bar Scenes” series. The artist says: “The Bar Scenes depict the feelings and moods associated with the sites and sounds associated with dining out, eating, drinking and celebration. The works are painted with a relatively thick palette knife application interspersed with finer details from the brush. The result reveals a rich mix of colours and textures full of vibrancy and movement. “

The lower ground floor will showcase a variety of other work demonstrating James' diversity and talent, including surrealist works drawing inspiration from Dali, as well as his latest, portrait based works, inspired by a trip to Parga in North West Greece.

Tom Stanley of the Orchard has high hopes for the project: “I look forward to introducing our customers to some fantastic artwork over the course of 2010, and encouraging the support and patronage of local talent and produce, whether this be art or food.”
