AAT Phases out Paper Based Exams in Favour of e-Assessments

Press release June 9, 2010 Education

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has announced that computer based assessments will be central to its revised qualification, due to be launched in July 2010.

The AAT has been using BTL’s Surpass e-Assessment solution to deliver exams for a while now, whilst also offering the option of a paper based exam.  The decision to phase out the paper based exams with the former qualifications was announced at the AAT annual conference for training providers, held in April 2010.

The AAT e-Assessments are the most innovative and relevant accounting exams currently available - the exam questions replicate work-based scenarios faced by accounting technicians. The flexibility of the e-Assessment system means that students can sit an exam at any time and they no longer have to wait 10 weeks to receive their results as provisional results are provided instantly upon completion of the exam. To aid familiarity with the e-Assessment system, students can access free practice exams via the AAT website at any time.

Jeremy Carter, Head of Sales & Marketing at BTL, says “The AAT is an innovative organisation, they have taken the bold step to phase out their paper exams and we are proud to support them using our robust and scalable e-Assessment technology”.

Susan Harper, Manager AAT Exams says “The computer based assessments we have developed with BTL enable us to assess students’ skills and knowledge in a robust way that reflects and prepares them for the workplace of today.”

The Surpass e-Assessment software is easy to install and administer. Centres need not worry about exam security and integrity as each candidate will sit an individual exam, whilst access to all other computer applications is restricted.

Centres are encouraged to contact the AAT Centre Support Team for further information at [email protected]
