2010 is about refurbing furniture, Trend Watch Expert Karen Broderick discusses the pro's and con's

Press release February 8, 2010 Homes & Gardens

A big trend for 2010 is to refurbish our existing furniture. Karen Broderick, trend watch expert at Harveys has a bit of advice to make sure that you don’t fall victim to some of the common pitfalls

Trend Watch Expert at Harveys the furniture store, Karen Broderick comments on some things to look out for when refurbishing your existing furniture:

We all cherish our homes and recycling our furniture to bring key pieces up to date can be a fantastic way of holding on to memories whilst keeping our home fresh and modern.  If you’re planning on doing this then:

  1. Ensure you use a reputable company as when you’re getting a sofa recovered you can’t see it before you buy and so once you have bought it you’re committed – ask for referrals and examples of work
  2. Pick a time to have the work done when you are going on holiday for example; this way you won’t miss being without your furniture for a few weeks whilst the work is being done

Karen also notes its now more acceptable than ever to mix old with new.  If you’ve had a sofa re-covered, then add some stylish new coffee tables in the room too – design is about as liberal as it has been for a long time at the moment, so as long as you choose furniture that fits nicely within the space you have available, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t mix and match all the way!
