2 year accelerated degrees offer more choice to students at Leeds Trinity

Press release June 29, 2012 Education

In response to student and employer demand, Leeds Trinity University College has completed a major review of its degree portfolio and launched 18 new degree courses for students starting in September 2013, which includes 2 year accelerated undergraduate degree courses.

With the rise in tuition fees and the graduate job market more competitive than ever, Leeds Trinity has developed these new degree courses to give students the choice to graduate sooner and gain more of the skills that employers demand from graduates. Leeds Trinity already works with 1000s of employers to offer professional work placements with every degree, and through these relationships, we’ve listened to the skills employers want from their workforce and developed our portfolio of undergraduate courses to reflect this.

The portfolio includes 2 year accelerated degree courses that let students develop these skills with extended professional work placements and accelerate their route from learning to earning, whilst saving money on fees and living costs. There are also new 3 year undergraduate courses, such as our Digital and Social Media degree, which was been created after analysis of the graduate job market revealed lots of opportunities demanding experience and knowledge in this area.

Leeds Trinity has had a positive response from employers and students alike following the announcement of these new degrees.

Dee Marshall, Head of Communications at Welcome to Yorkshire, said:

“From experience, we strongly believe that graduates with increased placement experience are more ready for work, and so much more employable as a result. We support Leeds Trinity’s focus on embedding employability skills into its degrees, particularly in relation to the new two year degrees recently announced, such as Tourism and Leisure Management. These accelerated degrees will not only give students more professional work experience through the extended work placements available, but also demonstrate that students have a strong career commitment which will endear them to employers, like ourselves.”

Marc Davies, Media and Marketing Student at Leeds Trinity, said:
I chose to do my degree at Leeds Trinity because of its strong focus on making its graduates as employable as possible, and I’m proud that it’s taking this focus even further. Given the chance again, I definitely would be interested in the Digital and Social Media degree, as all the graduate jobs I’m looking for want these skills!

Catherine O’Connor, Head of Business and Journalism said:
“This is a development for Leeds Trinity that marks an innovative step, the two year degree courses will allow students to enter the world of work faster, with the same high quality qualifications having benefitted from extended professional placements.”

This announcement comes just shortly after Leeds Trinity University College confirmed it will be seeking to obtain full University status, following the government’s announcement that the qualifying threshold for university title will be lowered from 4,000 to 1,000 students. The institution will be consulting a wide range of organisations about a proposed name change to Leeds Trinity University.
