Tough competition in top of jumping
Press release August 11, 2022 Herning2022 JumpingIt is still the strong team from Sweden who is in the lead in the team competition, closely followed by the French, who is also taking the lead with their Julien Epaillard.
The Agria FEI World Jumping Championship presented by Helgstrand at the ECCO FEI World Championships in Herning is ongoing, and the second round were finished this evening. The difficult course made the riders fight for the clear round, but the strong Swedish team delivered three of them and secured the lead once again. The Frenchmen did exactly the same, and with their three clear rounds today they are still placed 2nd, just a couple of faults behind the leading team.
On a 3rd place the German team is placed, and that is a jump in the ranking after yesterday’s ranking as number 6. On for tomorrow’s team final are besides the top-3, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Switzerland, Canada, Ireland, and Brazil.
Under the floodlight the team finals are on tomorrow. Ten nations are ready to jump for the chance to win medals, but for sure the Swedes are going for the win.
“We had a wonderful day today and all the horses jumped super. It is a nice way to end the day being in the lead, but now we need to meet up and make a plan for tomorrow”, says the Chef d’Equipe, Henrik Ankarcrona, from Sweden.
Julien Epaillard in great shape
The French rider Julien Epaillard is riding his first World Championship here in Herning, and he is making his debut with style. After riding fast and clear yesterday, he placed himself in the best position, leading the individual ranking. Today, he followed up and delivered a perfect clear round, and is still topping the ranking with 0 faults. Julien is riding the mare Caracole de la Roque by Zandor Z, and he was kind of nervous about his horse’s energy level this morning.
“My horse was so fresh this morning, so I was not in 100 percent control despite a small jog and some flatwork this morning. I was unsure if I should go for 7 or 8 strides down to the triple combination, but she was forward going so I decided to go for the 7, and it worked out really well.
Second after today is British Scott Brash, who also delivered a beautiful clear round. He was the last rider in the arena today and he was really delighted with his horse Hello Jefferson by Cooper van de Heffinck.
“I am delighted with Jefferson today, he felt very good, but it was a difficult course today, and it of course must be in a championship. I need to stay focused on me and my horse, because there is a lot of jumping to be done tomorrow before we have the final team result.”
Third in the individual ranking is Swedish Peder Fredricson with H&M All In by Kashmir van Schuttershof, and he is followed by his teammate Henrik von Eckermann with King Edward by Edward. The rankings are so close individually – in the top-10 it is only 3 faults separating the riders.
Home nation with three riders on for tomorrow
Sadly, for the home nation they did not get a spot in the team final, but there will still be three Danish riders competing in the competition tomorrow, which is open for the top-60 individually best placed riders.
The Danish riders ready for tomorrow are Emil Hallundbæk preliminary placed as number 32, Andreas Schou preliminary placed as number 51 and Lars Bak Andersen preliminary placed as number 52.
At Agria Super Sunday, the individual final will be held, and the 25 riders after tomorrow’s competition will be a part of the final.
