World famous design meets uncompromising technology - unveiled at The Nordic Embassies in Berlin.

Small table-top radios in the home no longer need be synonymous with mono sound, dials, and wooden panelling. This was obvious for all at the launch of Tangent's new radio at The Nordic Embassies in Berlin 3rd September.

Tangent, the award-winning audio manufacturer from Denmark, has paired with Jacob Jensen Design to create a revolution within the compact radios we place in rooms where large music systems are unnecessary.

Tangent Fjord combines the minimalistic design of Jacob Jensen Design with Tangents superior technology and stereo sound. The result is a unique and sculptural combination of form and function.

Radio for eyes, ears, and fingers

Choosing a radio for your home has until now often meant a compromise between technical features, acoustic performance, ease of operation, an aesthetic quality. With the launch of Tangent Fjord, this compromise is eliminated for the first time, allowing you to bring home a radio that satisfies demanding ears, critical eyes, and curious fingers.

Tangent Fjord is a small radio with a big sound. It appears as a minimalistic sculpture in the home, inviting operation all by itself. The high-quality materials and seductive finger-touch panel makes Tangent Fjord a physical expression for the satisfaction we experience, when quality in all aspects makes form and function unite on a higher level.

Under Tangent Fjord's sculptural exterior and inviting operation, Tangent's well-known and uncompromising technology resides. Tangent Fjord is one of the few compact table-top radios on the market that plays music as it was recorded: in stereo. At the same time, Tangent has succeeded in integrating a certified iPhone docking solution (Made for iPhone). The popular multi-function phone can thus be connected directly to the radio. This places high demands on the technical abilities of the manufacturer, and with Tangent Fjord, Tangent has once again proven that they are able to compete with the world's best when it comes to modern audio technologies.

The new Tangent Fjord is released in two versions: an FM version and DAB+/FM version. Both have a built-in CD-player as well as iPod/iPhone dock, and have minimal power consumption in standby. During operation, power consumption is reduced by the built-in reaction and proximity sensor. The sensor shuts down the display and operation panel, when these functions are not in use, waking them to life again, as soon as you approach the radio.

Nature in the design

"We were in contact with several international design studios, but when we saw, what Jacob Jensen Design proposed, it was crystal clear that they had found exactly the expression we were looking for," says Søren Bang-Larsen, Managing Director of Tangent, when recounting the start of the partnership that eventually created the Tangent Fjord.

"For quite some time, we wanted to add another dimension to our products, and make our Scandinavian roots more visible in our designs. Jacob Jensen Design was the perfect partner for doing so. Their massive amount of experience within the audio industry, combined with their physical location on the Liim Fjord in the heart of the Danish audio industry, is seamlessly expressed in the design. It conveys our thoughts and wishes perfectly," he says.

Good neighbours

Jacob Jensen Design is also very satisfied with the partnership with Tangent, which has fulfilled a long-standing wish from the studio's side.

"We've been searching for a qualified partner for some time now. Someone who can give us optimal possibilities for further development of the tradition of audio design we originally started with Bang & Olufsen. We've now found this partner in Tangent," says Managing Director and Chief Designer Timothy Jacob Jensen.

"We're working with serious, technologically sharp and sound-wise uncompromising people. At the same time, they have a nuanced understanding of the role of design and its meaning for the total user experience. It helps too, that they live virtually next door. We receive so much extra by having such a close-knit frame of reference, both geographically and within the proud Danish audio tradition, states Timothy Jacob Jensen.

About Jacob Jensen Design

For more than 50 years, Jacob Jensen Design has been known for ultramodern and minimalistic design, changing our perception of how a music system could look as far back as the 1960's.

Jacob Jensen's timeless design for Bang & Olufsen achieved the status of international classics, and is represented with 16 creations in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. It was therefore a natural step in Tangent's development to cooperate with one of the uppermost representatives for audio design and Scandinavian design in general.
