A chair with nerves of steel

Pressmeddelande februari 8, 2005 Homes & Gardens

Danish design duo Thau & Trampedach have just released an innovative wire chair, "The Copenhagen chair". The chair, which displays a rare degree of stackability, will be exhibited for the first time at the Stockholm Furniture Fair this week.

A wire chair with nerves of steel has seen the light of day; it is a graceful and feminine stackable chair called ”The Copenhagen chair”, with a frame of slim wire, a slender back and a ”floating” seat of aluminium, plastic or veneer. The chair's construction permits an unusual degree of stackability: ten chairs can be stacked in just 13-14 cm.

The chair is the latest creation of designers Jakob Thau and Jonas Trampedach, who have attracted a great deal of media coverage in the Danish press over the past year. From Wednesday of this week, they will be exhibiting their new wire furniture for the guests at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, in the ”Greenhouse” area for new designers.

"We aim to create furniture with soul, on the basis of realistic and simple ideas. We always try to plan for the industrial production from the start, without allowing the creative idea to be lost. We feel that we have succeeded in this aim in the items of wire furniture we are exhibiting in Stockholm this week, and naturally, we also hope to gain access to new and exciting partners," said Jakob Thau, director and designer with Thau & Trampedach.

At the fair, ”The Copenhagen chair” will be flanked by its partner ”The Copenhagen Table”: a matching, but more masculine table in aluminium and veneer. And the furniture family also has a little addition on the way: this spring, Thau & Trampedach will present a lounge version of the new wire chair.

You'll find Thau & Trampedach at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in Hall VO3:21. The fair is taking place from 9-13 February.
