Flipped Classroom; a better use of teachers’ class time
Press release mars 27, 2013 EducationThe classroom is not what it used to be. The old fashioned approach where a teacher would stand in front of a class and dictate, is not fulfilling all learners’ educational needs. Teachers and school managers around the world are looking for new ways to improve learning. The “Flipped Classroom” is a promising technique for modern teaching.
Technologies like Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) are changing the way pupils learn. Teachers use computers within a blended learning environment, to interact with each other outside the classroom in a secure digital place.
Teachers can “flip the classroom” where pupils watch lessons at home and complete assignments and exercises in school. Teachers’ time is used to provide individualised guidance to those pupils that need it most.
- Flipped classroom is a brilliant concept and an example on how schools can use technology to provide personalised and interactive learning. Pupils can watch videos of lessons at home, at their own pace, and can really spend time getting to grips with a topic. When tackling assignments in class they can have greater access to their teacher for one to one teaching; says Ingun Vaglid from Fronter, a leading Learning Management System (LMS) provider.
Flipping the classroom allows the teachers to do a lot more of what they joined the profession to do – to teach. Every pupil has different learning needs and challenges so their demands on the teacher will vary, as learning becomes even more personalised.
- When the resources are available online for students to go through at their leisure, there is more time for discussion and strengthening learning in the classroom, says Mr Cooper Blanks of St. Paul’s School in São Paulo.
There are a lot of uses for a learning platform, and we feel we are just scratching the surface. As teachers and students continue to share their methods and tips online we expect to see a lot of good collaboration and new methods of using technology to advance learning.
