Indian designer selected for fashion festival in the Netherlands

Northeast India native entrepreneur and designer Nixon Bui has been selected to participate in the FASHIONCLASH Festival of Maastricht, Netherlands. His brand NIXONBUI, which is based out of Copenhagen, is the only brand that has been chosen to participate from Denmark

The FASHIONCLASH Festival, which this year will be held for the eighth time, is intended to provide opportunities for a number of young talented fashion designers to show their clothes to an international audience. Taking place from 30 June to 3 July, 2016, the festival covers a number of events; from runway shows and panel debates to fairs.

"I am very proud and excited to get this chance. I look forward to showcasing my designs to an audience that are not just interested in fashion, but who works with it on a daily basis. I think the feedback I’m gonna get there is going to very valuable." says Nixon Bui.

The FASHIONCLASH Festival is open to all young designers. Every year, upandcoming designers from all over the world apply to be able to take part in the three day fashion event, and this year Nixon Bui was one of the few who got selected.

Nixon further ads: "We have worked very hard to be where we are now, and it’s nice to be recognized within the industry. We are finally breaking out of our shell, and this is an amazing opportunity for us to show our products to people within the fashion world, and to also learn from others.” 

Despite being a country with a strong textile history, India has yet to be properly recognized on the global fashion scene. A new wave of talents however, led by such names as Manish Arora and Priyanka Ella Lorena Lam, are leading the way for a new generation of Indian designers gaining international attention. So far the majority of  India's new wave of emerging designers tend to be from the mainland, Nixon Bui being one of the few from The North east getting noticed. And it's his fusion of mixing his tribal heritage with modern fashion that is getting him noticed. 

Heritage is also the theme of this year’s FASHIONCLASH, something that fits well with the NIXONBUI designs and brand story.

“Being able to represent both my tribal heritage and Northeast India in an international fashion setting is a great honor. We have a truly rich culture that I’m very proud of, but too few have heard about it. For me, NIXONBUI is my way of telling the story of my heritage, my culture, my people, the tribal people of Northeast India, in a way, my own existence.”
