Icelandic airline PLAY is pushing ahead with its expansion after a successful first few months of operations, with the airline adding Amsterdam to its route network and leasing four more aircraft.
PLAY takes off from Amsterdam
In its winter schedule, PLAY is adding flights to another destination in Europe: Amsterdam. From December 3, 2021, PLAY will initially fly twice a week - on Monday and Friday - from the Dutch capital to Reykjavik. With this, PLAY is following its current concept of enabling uncomplicated weekend trips to Iceland through flight days. The flights depart Amsterdam around noon each day and arrive in Reykjavik in the early afternoon. The return flights leave Reykjavik early in the morning and land in Amsterdam in the late morning. Tickets can be booked now at www.flyplay.com.
"We have been feeling a big increase in demand for a few weeks now and notice that people are now more and more willing to travel again. In this respect, now is the perfect time to expand our network in Europe and offer our passengers low fares to and from Amsterdam", says Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.
PLAY's fleet continues to grow
Currently, PLAY connects Reykjavik with various destinations in Europe using three bright red Airbus A321neo aircraft. This will change in 2022, when PLAY signed a lease agreement with global leasing group GECAS for three Airbus A320 new and one Airbus A321NX. The aircraft will be delivered between fall 2022 and spring 2023. In August 2021, PLAY also signed a letter of intent for two Airbus A320neo aircraft, which will join the fleet in spring 2022, allowing passengers to travel from Europe to North America via Reykjavik.
"We are pleased to add more aircraft to the PLAY fleet. Our long-term goal is to make PLAY a leading brand in our market, and our partnership with GECAS, a leading international aircraft lessor, is a step in that direction. We consciously incorporate environmental and ethical variables into our decision-making. The acquisition of these fuel-efficient aircraft will help us achieve our growth targets and we look forward to the opportunities ahead",says Birgir Jónsson.
PLAY is a new low-cost airline from Iceland, founded in November 2019 by aviation experts. The airline offers low-cost travel to top destinations. To do so, PLAY uses modern aircraft from the Airbus A320 series. The fleet, which currently consists of three aircraft, currently flies to various European airports, including Berlin. From 2022, PLAY aims to offer low-cost long-haul flights, integrating some North American destinations into its existing route network. More information is available at www.flyplay.com.
