Smart Grid Conference Captured Market Attention

The 7th International Exhibition on Electric Power Equipment and Technology and The 6th International Exhibition on Electrical Engineering, Electrical Equipment & Contractor’s Supplies (namely as EP Shanghai / Electrical Shanghai 2009) closed with a track record of 17,248 visitors.  The 3-day exhibition brought integrated solutions on power transmission & distribution, power generation, and introduced insights on the development of smart grid and energy-saving technologies to the industry.

Extensive Participation from the Industrial Players
As the only electric power exhibition organized by China Electricity Council, EP Shanghai / Electrical Shanghai 2009 became the focal point of the industry every year which witnessed the vigorous growth of the electricity industry of China. It was well-attended by the trade professionals including leaders of the major power group corporations and power grid corporations of China, and representatives from consulate-general in Shanghai. They included Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Executive Vice President of China Electricity Council, Mr. Qiu Zhijian, Director General of East China Bureau of State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr. Yao Guoping, Assistant Director General, Smart Grid Department of State Grid Corporation and Mr. Liu Zhihong, Deputy Director General of Grid Research Center, China Southern Power Grid, etc.

EP Shanghai / Electrical Shanghai 2009 attained growth in both exhibitors and visitors as compared to its past editions. Renowned exhibitors were come from 20 countries/regions including ABB, Areva, Siemens, Chint, Dongfang Electric, Hyosung, 3M, Schniewindt, Japan AE Power, Hitachi, Toshiba, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ormazabal, Wacker, Rittal, Roechling, Daihen, MR CHINA, Pentair, Aggreko, NARI, NERC and KGE, etc. and international pavilions from Germany, United States and Russia. Both local and overseas exhibitors brought with their innovative equipment and technologies, seizing unparalleled trading opportunities with the trade buyers.

According to the on-site survey, most exhibitors conveyed high appraisal towards the show. Stanislav Dorzhinkevich, Deputy Director of State Energy Policy Department of the Ministry of Energy of Russian Federation remarked, “We would like to thank the Organizers for the assistance during the preparing period and for the good organization of the fair.” Mr. Wuhua from Ormazabal recognized the organizers’ effort for providing such a high technological exhibition for the electric power equipment manufacturers. Moreover, 75% exhibitors showed their high recognition to the quality of visitors, while 83% found the show successful to promote the company image and 30% acquired orders at the fairground.

A Hub with Most of the Industrial Players at a Time 
Amongst the trade visitors attended EP Shanghai / Electrical Shanghai 2009, many are professionals and decision-makers coming from trade associations and power group corporations all over the country. For instance, more than 20 delegations were brought by electricity trade associations and power supply bureau from Henan Luoyang, Jiangsu Changshu, Nantong, Qidong, Rugao, Suzhou, Taizhou, Wuxi and Zhuangjiagang, Shanghai, Zhejiang Tongxiang, Neimenggu Dianli Jituan, with the presence of large enterprises such as SMDERI of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and CNNC Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Co. Ltd., etc.

Mr. Ling of Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute, who almost visited EP Shanghai every year, appraised the good organization of the show. He came to look for materials of cable and wire especially insulation materials such as silicone rubber of Dow Corning. Mr. Wang of Neimenggu Dianli Jituan tended to see new suppliers, and was attracted to the forum on smart grid and wind power generation which gave technological insights to current applications of the industry.

As the most established electric power trade exhibition in China, the show also attracted trade professionals coming from 36 countries/regions for sourcing. They include Covanta Energy – one of the leading developers of energy from waste projects, Scone Solar from India, Rio Tinto – the mining group from Australia and Unified Energy Systems of Russia Joint Stock Co. Mr. Marco Venezian of RANCAN S.R.L. expressed, “It’s a very good exhibition, including exhibitor quality, timing of expo and organizer service. We expect to see transformer manufacturers during the show. We will come again for the next EP China.”

Concurrent Activities Feature Industrial Hot Topics
A series of concurrent events along EP Shanghai attracted over a thousand of industrial professionals. The most attention-grabbing event is the Electric Power Industry Technology & Power Grid Construction and Development Conference organized by China Electricity Council. It conveyed the premium topic of Smart Grid that specialists from the State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid Corporation Ltd, China Guodian Corporation and Southeast University gave the Chinese perspective on the prospect of smart grid development in China. Besides, speakers from ABB, Siemens delivered speeches on the concepts, technology and products from European Perspective, while Eaton, S&C, GE Energy and Emerson led by National Electrical Manufacturers Association gave talks on smart grid from the US perspective.

Besides, Ms. Xue Jing, Director General of Department of Statistics and Information of China Electricity Council and Mr. Wu Xiao Jun of Electric Power Reliability Management Center delivered the “Report on China's Electricity Supply and Demand in the First Half of 2009" and “Report on the Reliability of Major Power Generation and Power T& D Equipment in 2008" respectively, giving an in-depth review of the power industry in China.

Electric power automation and energy saving were another focus highlighted in EP Shanghai 2009. The “Green Industrial Revolution - Electric Power Automation Technology Forum” were presented by specialists from Chinese Association of Automation, ARC Advisory Group, Phoenix Contact, GE Fanuc, etc. In another session namely “Green Industrial Revolution – Energy Conservation & Emission Reduction Automation Technology Forum”, professionals from Chinese Association of Automation, Siemens, ABB and Fluke Corporation addressed different solutions on energy-saving applications.

The Ministry of Energy of Russian Federation participated in the “Symposium on Power T&D Technology, Green Power” with their specialists to give talks on ‘Development of Distributed and Low Energy Objects on the Base of Gas-Turbine Installation’ and joined with Quartz New Technologies to speak for ‘Cooperation with Chinese Partners in Execution of Infrastructure Energy Project’.

Since 1986, EP China and EP Shanghai have been held rotationally in Beijing and Shanghai, and have become the largest trade exhibition of its kind in China, endorsed as UFI Approved Event. EP Shanghai / Electrical Shanghai 2009 is the only power expo organized by China Electricity Council while Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd is the overseas co-organizer.

EP China / Electrical China 2010 Returns to Beijing
The next exhibition – EP China / Electrical China will be held from Oct 19 – 21, 2010 in Beijing, PR China. To cope with the market demand and industrial development, specialized exhibition halls on renewable energy and electric power automation will be set up at the fairground. The track record of the 2009 edition is recognized by the industrial players that over 90% exhibitors have shown their interests to join the Beijing show whereas 36% past exhibitors have already reserved their exhibition area.
