The 4-day event attracted 72,161 trade visitors from 118 countries and regions. Among them, 11,760 were overseas visitors, which represented 16.3% of total trade visitors.

Renowned guests officiated at the opening ceremony:

On the opening day (Apr 17), Mr Chen Shineng, Chairman of China National Light Industry Council, Mr Jiang Yiren, President, Shanghai Industrial Economic Federation, Mr Liao Zhengpin, President of China Plastics Processing Industry Association, Mr Bernhard Merki, President of EUROMAP, Mr Rong Guangdao, President of Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry, Mr Tony Fung, CEO of Messe Duesseldorf China Ltd and Mr Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd were invited to officiate at the opening ceremony. Subsequent to the eye-dotting ceremony officiated by Mr Chen Shineng, the Chinese lion dance performance was taken place to symbolize the success of the trade show.

At the ceremony, all the guests highly recognized the contribution of Chinaplas 2008. Mr Liao Zhengpin expressed that Chinaplas 2008 strengthened the communication between China and overseas countries and facilitated local enterprises to adopt technological innovation to enforce the persistent development, and it also acted as a bridge connecting local and overseas associations, universities and professional institutions, etc. Mr Stanley Chu pointed out that Chinaplas 2008 demonstrated industrial and daily applications of plastics and rubber from all aspects and showcased the latest raw materials and machines, serving as a major trading platform for the industries between China and the rest of the world.

Environmentally friendly technology at Chinaplas 2008:

Being Asia's No. 1 and the world's No. 3 plastics and rubber trade fair, Chinaplas 2008's exhibition area reached a record-breaking scale of 134,500 sqm, increased 46% compared with 2006 edition, with nearly 1,800 renowned international exhibitors. Moreover, 10 pavilions from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, PR China, Taiwan Province, UK and USA were present to showcase their innovative products and technology.  Both show scale and number of exhibitors of Chinaplas 2008 hit the record heights.

The exhibitors gave unanimous applause to this edition. Mr. Tony Wilkinson, Managing Director of The Aerogen Company Limited (UK) expressed that the show was good and well-organized.  They had received encouraging responses and enquiries during the 4-day exhibition.  Besides, Mr James Chen, Marketing Manager of Guangdong Jinming Plastics Equipment Co., Ltd said, "We has participated in Chinaplas for 5-6 years and the show is good.  This year, we were highly attracted by the show because of the large number of visitors.  And it is very important that exhibitors can meet professional trade visitors. It is obvious that numbers of trade visitors as well as the overseas visitors increase a lot this year."  Added to this, Mr Luning of Shanghai Branch of Beijing Jingdiao Co., Ltd said, "The overseas promotion is very good and we can meet many overseas buyers here.  Our company focuses on the export of products and targets Middle East regions. The large number of Indian buyers also offers us numerous business opportunities."

New elements enriched the show's contents:

This year, the show also created new highlights to enrich the show's contents. Following the success of "CEO Forum" and "China-India Plastics Industry Summit" held last year, the Organizer, Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, continued this momentum in 2008 by joining force with China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA) and The Society of Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) to organize the "China-US Plastics Industry Summit". The summit was successfully held on April 16 and over 200 local and overseas enterprises attended the occasion, including those renowned representatives who had rich experiences in the Sino-US rubber and plastics trade industry. They addressed on the topics of Sino-US market development trend, technological features, challenges and opportunities facing the industry and the exploration of bilateral trading opportunities.

To welcome the staging of Beijing Olympics in the coming August, "Plastics & Rubber in Sports" Hall was established to attract more local and overseas media and visitors to attend and participate.  With the theme of "Innovative Plastics and Rubber, Sports without Limit", the Organizer demonstrated new trend of plastics and rubber application in the fields of sports equipments and facilities onsite. For example, bicycle pedal made of glass-reinforced nylon had outstanding dimensional stability and impact-resistance, which enabled it to operate over a broad range of temperatures. Part of a bicycle wheel made from PMI rigid foam sandwich structure had outstanding anti-torsion property and strength-to-weight ratio. Bicycle gloves formed by pre-molded rubber materials with the palm made of high-density foam offers the cyclist comfort and warmth. The gloves are also shockproof and easy to control the brake.  In addition, on the fairground, there were displays of Olympics stadium facilities with plastics and rubber as their construction materials, which included National Stadium (Bird's Nest), National Aquatics Center (Water Cube), Laoshan Velodrome, etc.  Besides, visitors also enjoyed the on-site sports performances of biking and yoga and they were also interested in participating in the interactive games, such as table tennis, mini-football and mini-golf. By joining these activities, visitors experienced how these new concepts of plastics and rubber application can facilitate athletes to push further their potential and physical limits.

It is also worth mentioning that Chinaplas unveiled her new professional, international and vigorous image to exhibitors and visitors at the fairground.  The mix and match patterns of different icons of plastics, machinery, die & mould, semi-finished products, etc. generated the overall design. These unique patterns were found at many on-site facilities and decorations which exhibitors and visitors gave positive comment on this fresh and new design.

Ms Ada Leung, Project Director of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of Chinaplas, said, "This year, the on-site design adopted a brand new nacarat color and visualized the exhibits of different theme zones to different icons. Through mix and match of these icons, different new patterns are generated.  The new image not only provides a fresh look to visitors, but also strengthens Chinaplas as the professional and international trade fair and enhances the sense of belongings of both exhibitors and visitors."

Chinaplas 2008 was highly appealed by local and overseas delegations:

The 4-day event attracted many overseas delegations to visit Chinaplas, including Egyptian Plastics Exporters & Manufacturers Associations, Malaysia Plastics Manufacturers Association, Philippines Plastics Industry Association, Thai Tool and Die Industry Association (TDIA), The British Plastics Federation (BPF), Vietnam Plastics Association, All Indian Plastic Manufacturers Association (AIPMA), etc.  For local buyers delegations, Chinaplas 2008 was well-attended by many trade associations from Beijing, Suzhou, Shantou, Shanxi, Wenzhou, etc. and some industrial user associations from building, packaging and automobile industries.  Moreover, many lecturers and students from renowned universities also visited Chinaplas.  These included Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University in Shanghai, Zhejiang University of Technology, Shanghai Polytechnic University, China Vocational and Technical College, Shanghai University, East China University of Technology and Shanghai Vocational College of Arts, etc. While these future elites made use of this valuable trip to enhance their industrial knowledge, exhibitors took this opportunity to promote their company images to their future customers.

The high degree of professionalism was also appreciated and endorsed by the Chinaplas buyers.  The first time visitor, Mr. Bipin Goradia of ND International from India, came to Chinaplas for searching chemical and machinery products.  After visiting, he said, "The show is good and all facilities are perfect.  I also met the Chinese partners here for further cooperation."  Besides, Mr Rudy Li, Manager of Taicang Double People Import & Export Co., Ltd. expressed, " We have participated in Chinaplas for 3 times and every year, we can collect many renowned companies' information, especially those international petrochemical corporations, which cannot be found in other trade shows. Our company is the manufacturer of different functional shoes for labours. TPU and other plastic materials are essential for us.  Therefore, the aim of this visit is to explore more industry information and source suppliers.  We are very interested in the TPU products of some exhibitors and ready to purchase.  In addition, we are surprised to find the shoes' pigments in the Chemicals & Raw Materials Zone, it is very suitable for one of our functional shoes and we will try to use it."

Furthermore, Mr Zheng Xiaopeng, Vice Secretary of Suzhou Plastics and Chemical Industry Association, highly appreciated that," I have participated in many trade shows and Adsale's trade shows are the most comprehensive with high quality. Many international enterprises and exhibitors joined the show and it is found that in terms of the product quality, technological excellence and market information, other trade shows cannot be compared with."
