FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi says Argentina is still searching for a World Cup team.
Newly crowned FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi says Argentina is still searching for a 2010 FIFA World Cup™ team. The gifted 22-year old who picked up the most coveted award for an individual player recently says his national team is not ‘solid’ like Barcelona where he plays his domestic football. Messi believes national team coach Diego Maradona is still “searching” for a “way to play” but the process of building a World Cup team has begun.
Messi credited his Barcelona teammates for bringing about his personal success this season. The La Liga star believes it is a “special time” at the Catalan club at the moment, he says players are “very close” and have a good relationship in the dressing room. A humble Messi went on to point out that anyone of this Barcelona team mates played well enough this season to win the FIFA World Player of the Year Award.
Comparisons between Maradona and Messi have been made in the past even by the legendary Diego himself, but having finally claimed the World Player award they have never been more poignant that now. Unassuming young Messi however says he’s “flattered” but believes he is far from achieving such status.
