Taxing times for teenagers - People's Choice voting begins for the ATO's Tax, Super and You Competition

Press release November 12, 2018 Ato Tax

The ATO is calling on all Australians to vote for their favourite entry in this year’s Tax, Super and You People’s Choice competition.

The competition asked students from years 7-12 to pitch creative campaigns encouraging their friends to learn about the importance paying tax and building superannuation. A judging panel will also select winners in the junior and senior categories.

Assistant Commissioner Sally Bektas, one of three judges in the competition, said a record number of entries had been received, and that the standard was extremely high.

“We received over 120 entries and have shortlisted ten finalists. It’s exciting to see how young people view and value the role of tax and super in the community,” Ms Bektas said.

The judging panel also includes electronic music producers and hosts of Triple J’s Friday Night Shuffle Vance Musgrove and Mikah Freeman from the popular DJ duo The Aston Shuffle, alongside ATO Deputy Commissioner Alison Lendon.

There is a total of $6200 in cash prizes to be won, with the senior secondary school winner to be awarded a one-week work placement within the ATO’s Marketing and Communications branch.

“We are proud to be able to offer students work experience, giving them a great opportunity to gain experience in a professional setting,” Ms Bektas said.
