It's Odd Socks Day - because anyone can have an odd day

Press release October 2, 2018 Health Mental

At least 50% of the Australian population will experience a mental health crisis at some time in their life, for one fifth of us it will be this year. This means no Australian is untouched by some form of mental ill-health or illness.

To remind us all that we can have an odd day at any time Grow SA is encouraging South Australian businesses to put on their odd socks.

Odd Socks Day is an annual event held on 5th October to challenge the myths around mental illness. This is a fun and engaging way we can raise awareness around mental health.

Grow SA runs a range of mental health programs that allow people experiencing mental illness to live well in their community. By signing up to Odd Socks Day businesses can support this vital community work with a donation tin in their workplace.

Grow SA is also encouraging everyone to get involved on social media with the hashtag #oddsocksday2018.

“Odd Socks Day is a nationwide initiative that raises awareness around mental health however it started here in South Australia in 2012 by a group of school students,” said Darryl Ballestrin, Manager of Grow Community Mental Health SA.

“By pulling on our odd socks for a day we are encouraging everyone to recognise that all of us have odd days and that is ok. By participating in Odd Socks Day we are having some fun while giving South Australians the opportunity to talk about mental health in a relaxed way.”

To sign up go to Odd Socks Day go to www.oddsockday.wordpress.com or phone Grow SA on 1800 558 268.
